Our first forays into at-home exercise began with Crunchless Abs, which is no longer available. We’ve also done Ultimate Flat Belly. These videos were surprisingly challenging and would have been a good compliment to a full workout routine if we’d had them at the time.
Donnie found The Complete Book of Pilates for Men at the library, which sparked our latest home gym obsession. We got this yoga mat to make working out on the hardwood floor more comfortable. Inspired by the book, Jordan started taking Pilates classes through ClassPass.
Donnie also checked out You Are Your Own Gym, a collection of bodyweight exercises designed to be done with only the things you already have in your house. Raising the Bar is a guide to all the different exercises that can be done with a pull-up bar, which can be found at most public parks.
Our only other workout equipment is a set of resistance bands, a pair of weights, and a jumprope.
Jordan does HASfit resistance band workouts on YouTube, as well as searching other resistance band training, Pilates, and stretching videos.
Jenny Blake interviewed Anders Varner on her Pivot Podcast about yin strength training, which inspired Donnie to start meditating before and after lifting. Now we use Insight Timer for free guided meditations, which Jordan read about in 10% Happier.
This part of the living room is purposefully left empty so it can function as a home gym when we need it to. Otherwise, it’s the office, DIY space, and hallway from the kitchen to the bathroom.
