It’s been a while since we’ve bought any decor. Our most recent purchases were the art Donnie got in Austin, which we talked about in the art sourcing episode, and the kitchen towels, which we talked about in our minimalism episode.
Our most recent decor update was rearranging our bookshelf to create a rainbow with the spines. This is something we’ve done before, but this time we’re really happy with the results. Other organizational options we’ve tried include arranging books by category—like at the library—or alphabetizing by author to make things easy to find. You could also arrange by size or turn all the books around to create a uniform look with all the pages facing out, though this is a hotly contested design tip.
We also sometimes display books without the dust jackets. The cloth binding has a vintage study look that Donnie is particularly fond of.
But we haven’t been doing a lot of spending lately because we have a few upcoming shopping occasions planned. We’ve been keeping this list of home stuff we want so that when we go to the Grand Bazaar Home Decor & Furniture Bazaar in May and Elephant’s Trunk Flea Market in August we have an idea of what we’re looking for.
This is our current coffee table book situation. It’s clearly missing one bookend, which has been added to the list. We’ll give you an update once we find one!
