This is the layout of the apartment I drew back for episode 5.
And here’s a slightly better mockup. This is everything that’s currently in our apartment, and it’s about 540 square feet.
Here’s what it would look like with the second bedroom/office that Donnie wants. This would allow us to move his desk, the second bookshelf, and the filing cabinet, as well as maybe getting a second desk.
If you want to hear us talk about the way we separate the current office from the current living room, check out episode 15 and episode 33.
This is what it would look like with the half bath I want, which Donnie helpfully mentioned would allow us to have in-unit laundry. I designed it with a stacked washer/dryer.
Now imagine that instead of a wall in the kitchen, we actually had a peninsula that opened the kitchen to the living room and provided another prep surface. Not a huge change, but it would add more functionality to the kitchen.
To see the plethora of other tiles that would be better than the tile we have, check out our Tile Inspiration Pics.
If we could rewire the whole apartment, we could change all the doors to pocket doors and reorganize the bedroom and bathroom to optimize the layout.
Can we make the entryway mudroom a thing? This would allow us to have a dedicated space for the washer/dryer, as well as a wall of storage for shoes, coats, and Donnie’s hiking equipment, which would no longer have to be in the living room. That means our ideal apartment is closer to 750 square feet.
P.S. We created all these layouts with Floor Plan Creator.
OK so Donnie says he does not know what CAD is and Jordan explains it but shares that she does not know how to do it, so… Who did the drawings seen in the show notes?
